Mary Ann Crum, widow of the late Alexander Crum, and daughter of Samuel and Catherine Howe, was born Aug. 28th, 1821 and died Jan. 6th 1891 of heart failure. She was of a family of twelve children of which four sisters survive her, Mrs. Jonas Adie, of North Victory, N. Y.; Mrs. Calista Van Wie, of LaPorte, Ind.; Mrs. Johnson Meigs, of Reading, Mich.; and Mrs. Edwin Jones, of Quincy, Mich.
On the 25th day of March, 1841, she was united, in marriage to Alexander Crum and they began their married life on the farm now owned by Lewis Talmage. Upon the death of her father, they returned to the home of her childhood, where she has resided for forty years. She was often heard to remark in her later years that she hoped that she might never leave the old homestead until carried to her last resting place, and her request was granted. She leaves three sons and four daughters to mourn her loss. She was a kind and affectionate wife and mother, and a true help meet her first interest being always in her home and family, and her hands ever ready and willing to help those who were in need. She was a mother whose good works will follow after her, and whose children will follow after her, whose children will arise up and call her blessed. She will be mourned by her neighbors as a true friend and by her children as a kind and affectionate mother. She, with her husband, united with the M. E. church at Warners, in 1876, where they were faithful attendants as long as their health permitted. After having spent nearly forty-nine years of married life together, death separated them but for a year and twelve days, when they were again united on the other side.
