Lester Eugene Stephens, 67, R.R.3 died Thursday in Ball Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Muncie, attended Muncie schools and graduated from Central High School. He served in the Army during World War II as a supply sergeant and with the military police in the Philippines.

Mr. Stephens was owner and operator of Stephens Plumbing, an independent plumbing contractor, since 1954. Previously, he worked at Ball Corp. for 13 years and at Chevrolet-Muncie for two years. He was a member of Muncie Lodge 433, F&AM, and Chapter, Council and Commandery.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Crawford Stephens; a daughter, Patricia King, Valparaiso; a son, Richard E. Stephens, Muncie; three sisters, Ruth Stebbins, Chesterfield, Naomi Hensley, Albany, and florence Heath, Muncie; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary, with William King officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory. Calling hours at the mortuary are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today or before services Saturday. Muncie Lodge 433 will conduct memorial services at 7 o'clock tonight in the mortuary.
