(Noted) Both my Dad "Pop" (Melvin Lee Eckard, 1938-2022) and my Aunt Bonnie both said that my Grandpa Charles played Basketball in his High School Years at Ames-Bern High School, in Amesville, Athens County, Ohio, and that Charles was somewhat of an "All Star Basketball Player," back in his younger High School days. And, that, that's how my grandparents (Charles Albert Eckard & Zola Juanita Triplett) had met each other (was through their love for basketball, and how my Grandpa Charles would go watch my Grandma Zola play Girl's Basketball at her High School in Chesterhill, Morgan County, Ohio, because he thought she was really good). My Grandpa Charles also enjoyed remodeling and painting old pieces of antique furniture, and then he and my Grandma Zola would sell it. Plus, my Dad Melvin also told me that his parents both enjoyed growing a garden as well. My Eckard cousin (Stephanie Ann (Brandon) Claussen) had told me the cutest story about our Grandpa Charles (and how he loved picking up cute little rabbits in the field and then he would take the rabbits to show the grandchildren and let them pet them)... Awe, how adorable... :)

Charles A. Eckard

There will be no services or calling hours for Charles A. Eckard, 81, of 925 Ethel Avenue, of Heath, Ohio. Mr. Eckard died Friday morning at his home. He was born January 30, 1910, in Athens County, Ohio., to John W. and Blanche (Williams) Eckard. Mr. Eckard retired from "Kaiser Aluminum," in 1971, where he had worked as a stationary engineer. Surviving are his wife, Zola J. (Triplet) Eckard, of Newark, Ohio; three sons: Dan C. Eckard, or Newark, Melvin Eckard, of Heath, Ohio., and Gary R. Eckard, of Mendocine, California; one daughter, Bonnie J. Brandon, of Heath; two sisters: Claribel (Eckard) Junod, of Huron, Ohio; and Virginia (Eckard) Young, of Sarasota, Florida; 12 Grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Eckard was preceded in death by his parents: John Wesley Eckard and Cora Blanche (Williams) Eckard; three brothers: Homer Martin Eckard, Clarence Henry Eckard, and Harold Howard Eckard; and two sisters: Pearl Eckard, and Garnet M. (Eckard) Brown. Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
