Hulan R. Bailey, 78, of Gonzales, died Friday, December 28, 2001. He was born in Monthalia, on January 18, 1923, to the late Ernest and Maudie Mahan Bailey. He was a surveyor for 37 years with Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative and a member of the Catholic Church and a 40-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5090. He also served in the United States Army in European theater in World War II.

Survivors include his wife Gertrude Lasitschka Bailey of Gonzales; one daughter, Patricia Taylor of San Marcos; two sisters, Mabel Richter of Gonzales, Glenna Kohli of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, Cecil Bailey of Gonzales and Winston Bailey of Seguin and one granddaughter, Melissa Taylor.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Richter and Marie Bailey and three brothers, Lester Bailey, Boyd Bailey and Derwood Bailey.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 31, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Frank Macias officiating. Interment followed at the St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerome Pavliska, Billy Joe Mikesh, Tommy Schurig, William Technik, Marvin Siegel and Marcus Pridgeon. Honorary pallbearers were the men of the Knights of Columbus Council #5090. Memorials can be made to the Gonzales Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund. Buffington Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
