TALITHA CUMI GARLICK AVERY CHENEYShe was born September 22, 1824, at Providence, Bedford Co., PA. Her father, David Garlick, was born September 27, 1779, in NJ. He died November 14, 1843, in Nauvoo, IL. Her mother, Elizabeth Buck, was born May 2, 1795, in Bedford Co., PA. Talitha was baptised April 7th 1840 in the Mississippi River by Joseph Smith, the Prophet. When the Relief Society was organized, she joined with her mother and her sisters in 1842. In 1845, March 12th she was married to a good young man by the name of William Howard Avery. He died on the 13th of September 1847 in Atcheson Co., MO, (12 miles south of Linden)Talitha and her young son, William Jr., started the 10th of June in Daniel Miller's Company and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley September 10, 1853. February 13th, 1854 Talitha married Elam Cheney in Springville, UT. They were married for time only. On October 17, 1888, Talitha was sealed for eternity to William Howard Avery.Talitha was the mother of 5 children.William Howard Avery, Jr. with 1st Husband. And, from her second husband, Elam, she had Olive Mehitable; David; Selar; and Thomas Edward.When she was 69 years old and she walked over the Big Mountain (Teton Pass) and eventually settled in the Victor, ID area. She was a poet; step dancer; entertainer and church worker. She was a good housekeeper, small and spry. She was was proud of her Indian heritage.She died the 17th of April 1902 and is buried in the Victor Cemetery.

This is Elam Cheney. He was Talitha's second husband. The Utah Census of 1880 indicates that they were divorced.
