Perry Gage Dies At Central City -
After a serious illness of several months, Perry Gage died Saturday, February 18, at a hospital in Central City at 82 years of age...
Perry Alonzo Gage, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Gage was born on a homestead in Gage Valley southwest of Palmer, Nebraska January 3, 1879.
On March 7, 1906, he was married to Esther Ross. To this union two sons were born.
Perry was school superintendent in Palmer and had some experience on a Chautauqua circuit before he purchased the Palmer Journal in 1913. Mr. and Mrs. Gage published the Palmer paper for 21 years. They were very active in community affairs. When World War II broke, Perry assumed the thankless job of serving on the local draft board.
In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Gage moved to Central City, where they resided until his death, Mr. Gage served for twelve years as County Assessor of Merrick county.
Mr. Gage was a charter member of Ars Poetica (Nebraska Poets Club) and was also affiliated with the Midwest Association of Chapparal Posts, and was a member of Merrick Lodge No. 75, I.O.O.F. and the Royal Neighbors of America.
He is survived by his widow, a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Gage of Burbank, California, a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gage of Webster Groves, Missouri, and a granddaughter, Gayle Gage of Webster Groves, Missouri.

Tribute in memory of Perry Gage of Central City, publisher of the Palmer Journal for 21 years, and former superintendent of school, was given as a part of the Memorial Service of the Spring Retreat of the Nebraska Chaparral Poets held at the Capitol Hotel in Lincoln Sunday morning, May 7th. A review of his activities in community and literary fields with emphasis on his work as a member of the Chaparral was given. Two of his poems: "Wanted - A Pup" and "Pioneer" were read by Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkinson of Grand Island, who conducted the service.
