OBITUARY--J.O. SAMUELSON

Lisco was saddened Friday morning to learn that J.O. Samuelson had died Thursday evening at 10 o'clock at his home here. Mr. Samuelson had been sick but seemed to be feeling much better the past two weeks. Mr. Samuelson and his family moved here in 1917. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church at 10:30 Sunday morning with Rev. Paul Neil in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. R.O. Stevenson, Mrs. F.C. Outson, Mrs. H.B. Olson, Mrs. Otto Johnson and Mrs. H.C. Hays. Burial was made in the Lisco cemetery.
Those from out of town who attended were his daughter, Mrs. C.E. DeGrafft, Mr. DeGrafft and Donald Phillips of Denver, his son, Glenn Samuelson, of Mohave, Calif., his granddaughter, Mrs. M.A. Knoll, of Chicago, and his brother, Edward Samuelson, of Chugwater, Wyo. Friends of the family present were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barta and son and Mrs. Ella Evey of LeGrange, Wyo.
The Lisco community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
Eulogy--Joseph Oscar Samuelson was born in Elgin, Ill., to Mary and Gustav Samuelson on Feb. 2, 1861. He was married to Jessie Gladys Deulen on New Years day 1885 in Manning, Iowa.
Children born to this union were Ernest and Elvin, who went to be with God in early infancy. Those children who are living are: Mrs. Orpha Anderson and Ray Samuelson both of Lisco, Mrs. Edna DeGrafft of Denver, Colo., Glenn Samuelson of Mohave, Calif. The grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs.Samuelson are: Mrs. M.A. Knoll of Chicago, Ill., and Donald Phillips of Denver, Colo.
Mr. Samuelson went to his eternal home with God at 10:00p.m. Thursday, Aug 8. He was a devout Methodist till he came to Nebraska in 1917. When he made his home in Lisco, he joined the Presbyterian church. Because of the respect and admiration that others had for him he was elected and ordained as an Elder. He has been a devoted Sunday school teacher and Elder ever since.
Sisters and brothers surviving him are: Mrs. Esther Naugel, of Corydon, Iowa, Miss Linda Samuelson of Plainville, Kans., Otis Samuelson of Capron, Okla., Charles Samuelson of Santa Anna, Calif., and Edward Samuelson of Chugwater, Okla.
Mr. Samuelson would have been 89 years old Feb 2, 1941.
He was happily married to his loving wife 55 years this last New Years day. Everyone knew him as a hard worker and a devout Christian. He was that.--News, Oshkosh, Neb.
Mr. Samuelson was an old settler in Wendell township and an early commissioner from the first district. The family moved to Wyoming in 1912, and later to Lisco, Neb.
