Jesse Austin Baber, 56, of 309 Spruce St., died Monday morning (Oct. 24) at Waynesboro Community Hospital.

He was born August 28, 1932, in Afton, a son of the late Jesse Davidson and Mary Della Amerson Baber.

Mr. Baber was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He retired in 1979 from General Electric Co. after 16 years of service.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Waynesboro chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Skyline chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leona Mae Rusmisel Baber; a son, Anthony (Tony) Austin Baber of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Mrs. Marshall (Debbie) Helmick of Waynesboro; four sons, Robert Edward Baber of Newport News, Charles Hamilton Baber of Waynesboro, Henry Hamton Baber of Whitehall, and Kennth Baber of Papaw, W. Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Larry (Virginia Louise) Wade of Waynesboro, Mrs. Gary (Ann) Paterson of Savanah, Ga., Mrs. Clyde (Ruby) Raines of Winchester, Miss Lucy Baber of Afton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Baber was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Benjamin Baber.

A funeral, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ralph M. Piland, will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at McDow Funeral Home. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Archambeault, Harry Floyd, Coy Kiser, Junior Showalter, Billy Graham and Mervin Newman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Mowbray, Dr. Thomas L. Gorsuch, Dr. Gary Murray, Tiny Coiner and former employees of General Electric Co.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight in the funeral home.
