Mrs. J. C. Crawford Passed Away June 2

Nora Alive Hyatt, youngest daughter of A.W. And Loraine Hyatt, was born January 6, 1881, near Yutan, Nebraska, in Saunders County. She departed this life June 2, 1950 in the Broken Bow hospital at the age of 69 years, 4 months, and 6 days, being the last of a family of ten.

She came to Custer county when one year old. At the age of 13 she joined the Liberty Christian church, being baptized in Clear Creek by the Rev. E. W. Eubank.

On September 9, 1902, she was united in marriage to James Carrol Crawford. In 1906 they moved on a homestead in Yuma county, Colorado, where they resided for five years. Feeling the need of care for her aged mother, she, with her husband, returned to her father's home place and tenderly cared for her the remainder of her life. It was here they built their family home, spending in all 59 years of her life on this farm. Being denied the privilege of having children of their own, they adopted three daughters; Wilma Nora, Marjorie Doris, and Betty Lorraine. These girls were given a home, love and care the same as any paternal parents could give their children. Nora not only cared for these girls, but she gave much of her time to sewing and giving to needy children.

Her health had been failing for several years, and on March 12th serious illness caused her to be taken to an Aurora hospital, where medical care and loving hands did all that could be done. She was granted the privilege to return to her old home a few days before she was called to the Great Beyond.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and three daughters: Wilma, now Mrs. Jack Coberly of Ansley; Marjorie, now Mrs. Eau Clair Dewey of Brady; and Betty, now Mrs. Bill Baburek of Comstock; three grandchildren, Marvin and Clarence Sue Dewey, and Sally Sue Baburek; also a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Sunday, June 4, with the Rev. Alice Ellison in charge. Her final resting place was in the Liberty cemetery.
