A native of McCormick County, South Carolina, she had lived in Elberton for the last 53 years. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Patrick Morrah and Janie Agnes Wardlaw Morrah. Janie Lee had the honor of being chosen as Miss McCormick County in 1918.
She was a member of the Elberton First Presbyterian Church, having joined with her husband in 1928. Janie Lee was a housewife, devoted wife and mother, and very active in the Women of the Church.
She was the widow of Harold Hudson Jones, Sr. They were happily married for 53 years.
Survivors are son, Harold H. Jones, Jr. and wife Martha Lou Britt Jones of Elberton, two grandchildren: Mary Martha Jones and Harold Hudson Jones, II, a sister: Mary Elizabeth “Teede” Morrah (Mrs. Mark Edward Bradley) of Clemson, South Carolina, and many relatives in South Carolina.
Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 17, 1980, at Hicks Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Boyd of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the Bethel “E” Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Jones, Ray Mabry, Bradley McGarity, Edward Morrah, Samuel Morrah, Lynn Rayle, Paul Turner, and Jimmy Woodson.
