Lieut. William Fobes ran a ferry from Little Compton across the Sakonnet River to Newport, what is today part of Middletown, R.I. He lived on the Great West Road on Lot # 4 of the 'great lots' as designated by the founders, near Windmill Hill.

He first married (about 1679) Elizabeth Southworth, daughter of Constant and Elizabeth (Collier) Southworth, who died in 1681. He married second Martha (Pabodie) Seabury, widow of Samuel Seabury and daughter of William and Elizabeth (Alden) Pabodie, born in Duxbury 24 Feb. 1650, died 25 Jan. 1712 in Little Compton.
