PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME
IN ARNOLDS PARK ON
MONDAY

Mrs. Bernard (Ben) Wiese, 76, a residence on East Okoboji lake at Arnolds Park since 1900, will be buried today Thursday in the Okoboji cemetery at Arnolds Park. Mrs. Wiese died at her home Monday morning after an illness of several months. Funeral services will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake at 2 p. m Thursday.

Mrs. Wiese was born Julia Matthiesen, daughter of William and Catharine Matthiesen, in Holstein, Germany, April 26, 1864. When she was three years old her parents moved to Lone Tree, Iowa. She grew to womanhood there and was married there August 27, 1890, to Mr. Wiese. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in another month. Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Wiese moved to Westport township and established a home on a farm. They moved to the lake 46 years ago and in 1900 purchased the Lake View house, a small summer hotel on East Okoboji Lake. They operated it as a hotel for many years and had a boat livery in connection, until within recent years.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Wiese were great lovers of the lake and were fond of fishing. They especially liked fishing through the ice and winter fishing and both regularly tended gill-nets for many years after that form of fishing was permitted.

They were the parents of only one child, a daughter, Alma, now Mrs. Charles Wilson. Mr. Wiese, Mrs. Wilson, and two grandchildren, Jimmy and Betty Wilson, survive. A sister, Mrs. Emma Carl of Lone Tree, is the only member of her immediate family to survive. Mrs. Wiese was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church in Spirit Lake. Rev. M. J. Ansorge will be in charge of the services there. Pallbearers will be close friends of he family, Dwight Deck, C. W. Stoker, Harry Langfeldt, S. E. Davis, Frank Harker, and John Koppen, all of Arnolds Park and Spirit Lake.

*Obituary is published in The Spirit Lake beacon, August 1, 1940.
