She was the infant daughter of Daniel Payne and Elizabeth Adams Hooe Winter Payne. Her grandparents were William Winter and Catherine Taliaferro Hooe of "Efton Hills". Susannah's parents lived across the river in Granville, Fauquier County, Virginia, but since this child's grave marker has been relocated to Durham Churchyard, she was probably buried in the family plot at her grandparents' home of "Efton Hills".

This stone is located in the rows containing other very old stones. Reverend R.B. Stevenson would relocate old markers that were about to be destroyed by neglect, to the Durham Church Graveyard for historical preservation.
