Both of her parents died in Rapid City, her mother in 1929, and her father in 1932. Ruth graduated from Rapid City High School in 1934.
On November 13, 1935, Ruth married Deal Benjamin Barnes in Hollywood, CA.
They came about 1949 to Rapid City, SD and stayed there, Deal working for the American Fruit Companty and Ruth working as a bookkeeper for Gate City Plumbing until 1952. Ruth also managed a cafe in Rapid City.
Deal and Ruth moved to Bassett, NE in 1953, where they worked on a ranch. They moved to Valentine in 1955 and worked on the GC Young Ranch, later moving to the Sam Hudson ranch. Ruth was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Rebecca Lodge and Daughters of the Nile, Namath Temple #108 in Hastings, NE.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Deal; 2 brothers, Roy and Wayne and one sister, Ines Hardy.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lee and her husband Bryan of Fullerton, NE; grandchildren, Chris Davis and husband Tom of Valentine and Darrin and wife Charlene Lee of Texas. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Dustin Davis
Funeral service for Ruth Barnes was held on Tuesday, June 1 at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. Rev. Tim O'Leksy officiated at the 2:00 PM service. Burial followed at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pine was entrusted with service arrangements.
