Ruth V. Maddox, 96, of Hannibal, died at 2:37 a.m., Monday, September 3, 2012, at Beth Haven Nursing Home. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, Rev. Jeff Anderson, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. Wednesday until time of services at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Ruth was born Dec. 17, 1915 in Ralls County to Walter A. and Jenny I. Albright Gibson. She married Elbert D. Maddox June 22, 1935 in Hannibal and he preceded her in death October 23, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Paul Maddox and wife, Gail, of Hannibal and Thomas Michael Maddox and wife, Marcia, of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Rebecca Anne David and husband, Ron, of Hannibal; eight grandchildren, Paula Epker, the twins, Julie Haynes and Jenny Miller, Michael Maddox, Raygan Janes, Marnee David, Tara Falbo and Jeffrey Maddox; 17great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Helen Werner, of Springfield, Mo.; one step-sister, Cherie Zimmerman, of Carson City, Nev. and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Lynn Maddox, her parents and one sister, Nina Cothron and one great grandson.

Ruth was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday school class at the church. She will be remembered by her family for her devotion to them and the many memories they have of family get-togethers and reunions. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed weaving rag rugs. She volunteered for numerous organizations including R.S.V.P. and Beth Haven Auxiliary. Ruth worked at Western Printing Company in Hannibal and graduated from Hannibal High School class of 1934, the first graduating class from the new high school.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Beth Haven Auxiliary in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Skip Janes, Donnie Miller, Jeff Maddox, Mike Maddox, David Falbo and Wes McGowan.
