Ruth Ethel Flaugh was born 15 Feb 1910 near Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the second of 4 children born to Effie Beige Flaugh and Ernest Flaugh. In about 1917 when she was 8, the family moved back east to Meadville, PA and later Cambridge Springs, PA. Her father was a locomotove fireman. In 1922, they moved to Cambridge Springs, PA where Ernest purchased a drayage or trucking company. Ernest died suddenly in a trucking accident in 1932 when Ruth was 22. In 1937, Ruth married Marshall Ward Williams, Jr of Meadville. He joined the Army as a second lieutenant at the start of the Second World War. After finding himself assigned to the Phillipines and likely death, Williams hanged himself at Fort Bragg, NC 28 Jun 1941. He is buried in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.

Ruth married a second time to Richard Raymond Tripp, a Seabee in the US Navy on 9 Jan 1943. She moved to Gulfport, MS to be near him until he left for the Pacific when she moved to Meadville to work at the Keystone Ordinance Works making ammunition for the war. When Richard Tripp left the military after the war, they settled in Fairbanks, AK where Richard had served at Point Barrow. They operated Tripp Business Machines. From there she moved to Williamsburg, VA, Roanoke, VA, Atlanta, GA and Lompoc, CA where they operated AFB Machine Repair. While living in Lompoc, CA, on 28 Jun 1962 Richard was killed in an airplane accident in Minneapolis, MN. He was the pilot of a small plane which lost its propeller on takeoff. Dick was buried near his home in Spring Creek Cemetery near Warren, PA. Ruth had lost a second husband.

Back in San Jose, CA, Ruth married a third time to Donald Carl Curtis, another WW II veteran. They moved to Fresno, CA, then to Jacksonville, FL and finally to Phoenix, AZ. In 1988, Don and Ruth moved to Nashville, TN to cooler weather and a close VA hospital for Don who by this time had gained much weight and was not well. On 8 Nov 1991, Don Curtis died in Nashville, TN. He is buried in the Nashville Military Cemetery. Ruth had lost a third husband.

While recovering from Don's death, she was befriended by Preston Nirie Sullivan, a younger Korean war veteran. She moved in with Preston in his home near Ashland City, TN. Ruth Ethel Flaugh died there 21 Feb 1999. Her ashes were left with Preston. Ruth had no children.
