Mary Helen Rudloff was born September 20, 1902 to Charles George and Elizabeth (Lilly) Belle Mills Rudloff in Pinckneyville, Illinois. Her mother passed away in 1917 when Mary was 15 years old and it was her responsibility to take care of her younger brother, Bob, who was two at the time. Her mother, Lilly, had been a housekeeper for her father, Alfred Mills, so Mary took over the job for her grandfather. After seven years she grew tired of being head of a household and came to Wyoming by herself to homestead in Converse County, Wyoming at the age of 22.

She met Henry H. Alberts and they were married June 1, 1925 at Douglas, Wyoming. They had 3 children: Lila May born March 9, 1926; Henry Eugene born March 6, 1931 and Robert Allen born September 26, 1934. Henry passed away in 1938 and she married Fayette H. Harris on June 1, 1939 at Harrison, Nebraska.

Mary passed away Jan. 20, 1988 at Casper, Wyoming. She was survived by one son, Hank Alberts; one sister, Elizabeth Howerton of DuQuoin, Illinois; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son, Robert A. Harris, one daughter, Lila May Tarrant and three brothers, Frank, Charles and Robert Rudloff.

Mary's information was obtained from her personally, birth, marriage and death certificates, and a biography written by Betty Alberts, her daughter-in-law, in "Pages from Converse County's Past" published by the Heritage Book Committee, Wyoming Pioneer Association, 1986.
