Vernus was b. on a farm nr Harlan, in Jefferson Twp, Shelby, Iowa. After his brother Virgil, was b. (1927)the Wiese Family moved into Council Bluffs, where their father, would be able to get a job, hopefully, on one of the 8 railroads, there. This he did.

Some time later, their pa lost his left arm in an automobile accident where another driver swung too far over the center line and side swipped his car taking his lower left arm off.

As one can surmise, their pa was not able to obtain employment very easily. He became a shade tree mechanic and did his best, but Myrtie gave up and divorced him just before WWII.

In the summer of 1942, their mom, Myrtle HOLDSWORTH Wiese, decided to move to Portland where work was available in the ship yards. Vern & bro. Virg attended schools here, Portland.

When Vernus became 18, he returned to Council Bluffs to enlist into the USMC. In Oct 1943, Vernus, was off to San Diego, California to get started on his tour of duty, with the USMC. His mom was still in Portland working in the shipyards.

In November of 1946, Vernus wed Agnes Marie "Babe" SHIELDS in Council Bluffs. Virgil was on Guam with the US Army Air Corps, and was given leave to come back home for his brother's wedding.

In 1948, I watched Vern play with the Council Bluffs Policemen's Association's basketball team vs the Globe Trotters. It was a riot.

Vern retired after working for 20 yrs for the Great Western RR as their Ass't Yardmaster, in Council Bluffs.

When Vern & Babe (she was a nurse at Mercy Hospital)both retired, they continued to live in Council Bluffs @ #2 Linn Avenue. Since both Vern & Babe had health prblems, in 1993 they moved to Sun City.

Vernus (and later, Babe)was returned to Council Bluffs for burial and is bur. next to his parents in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
