CARLISLE Russell E. Cleaver, 76, of 118 W. Willow St. died Wednesday in the Cumberland County Nursing Home, Middlesex Twp.

He retired from Knouse Foods, Gardners; was a Navy veteran of World War II; a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Newville VFW Post 6070; and a member of Barnitz United Methodist Church and Mount Holly Springs American Legion Post 674.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha G. Cleaver; two stepsons, Clyde L. Weaver of Carlisle and Robert L. Weaver of Texas; a stepdaughter, Marlene Fulmer of Carlisle; a brother, Howard of York; two sisters, June Griffie of Gardners and Helen Thumma of Carlisle; 11 stepgrandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gibson-Hollinger funeral Home, Mount Holly Springs. Burial will be in Mount Holly Springs Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Russell E. Cleaver, 76, of 118 W. Willow St., Carlisle, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1996, in Cumberland County Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 21, 1920, in Hampton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Naomi Beck Cleaver.

He was retired from Knouse Foods, Gardners and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Cleaver was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Newville VFW 6070. He also belonged to Mt. Holly Springs American Legion 674 for over 24 years and attended Barnitz United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha G. Cleaver; two stepsons, Clyde L. Weaver of Carlisle and Robert L. Weaver of Texas; a stepdaughter, Marlene Fulmer of Carlisle; a brother, Howard of York; two sisters, June (sic) Griffie of Gardners and Helen Thumma of Carlisle; 11 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gibson-Hollinger Funeral Home, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, with the Rev. Kenneth Barner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.
