John Herman Heitmann born in 1839, son of John Gerhard Heitmann and A. Maria Buker, married Sarah Anna Winkels on January 4, 1862 in Guttenberg, IA. (Guttenberg Church Marriage Record)

According to the 1850 Census record, his mother's name is Catherine. It's most likely the church record of his mother's initial of A is incorrect - that it should be a C.

John Herman Heitmann Dies Suddenly Of Apoplexy.

On Friday afternoon, May 21, 1915, at 4:15 o'clock at his home in this city John Herman Heitmann suddenly passed away, the cause of his death being apoplexy. He had not been ailing and was enjoying good health and therefore his sudden death came as a shock to his relatives and friends. He had been working about his home shortly before death came upon him. Deceased was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 30, 1839, and therefore was 75 years, 9 months and 21 days of age at the time of his death. At the age of eight years he came to Clayton County, Iowa, settling at Guttenberg. he lived a few years at Potosi, Wisconsin, the balance of his life he was a resident of this city, being successfully engaged here for many years in the cigar manufacturing business - he was also Justice of the Peace of this township for many years. Mr. Heitmann was an ambitious man during his entire life and he was a kind and true husband, father and friend, and was held in high regard by all who knew him. His death is deeply mourned by his widow, seven daughters, Mrs. John Gujer, Mrs. R. J. Hamp, Mrs. F. S. Campbell and Mrs. Wm. A. Kieber, of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. A. L. Bierbaum, of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Ervin Scheffert, of Elkport, and Miss Lucy Heitmann, of Guttenberg, and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Heitmann home Monday afternoon, Attorney Chas. E. Scholz officiating. Interment was made in the City Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended. In the death of Mr. Heitmann Guttenberg loses one of its pioneer residents and most highly respected citizens.
