Florence Roselda Phillips was born and raised on the family homestead, three miles south of Valley Springs, SD, and spent her childhood days there, before moving to Sioux Falls, where she had been employed at Frankel's store and worked as a paralegal. Her family reported that Florence had a "photographic" memory.

Florence and her sister, Hilda, were spending their vacation visiting relatives at Argyle and Blancharville, WI, when she became ill and was taken to the hospital, where she underwent a serious operation. Her condition seemed favorable for several days until peritonitis set in and death claimed her at 1:40 PM, Sunday night. Her brother, George, arrived there Sunday morning and whith his sister, Hilda, remained at her side until she died. The body was brought back to Sioux Falls Tuesday morning.

Surviving are her parents, Peder and Lena Phillips; brothers, Louie, Sioux Falls, Nead, Garretson, SD, Ben, George, Ruben, Beaver Creek, MN, and Peder, Hills, MN; sisters Iva and Ferne, Sioux Falls, and Hilda, Beaver Creek; besides a host of relatives and friends.

Relatives from out-of-town attending the funeral included Mrs. Bonnie Vick, Blanchardville, Wi, who was with Florence during her illness; Mrs.Ida, Neilson, Marshall, MN; Mrs. Anna Nelson, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Kizer and daughter Colleen, Mitchell; Mrs. Leland Refferty and daughter Carleen, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Curry, Luverne; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson and daughter Helen, Luverne; and Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Johnson and family, Hardwick, MN.
