Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. at Meyer Funeral Home Chapel in Council Bluffs on Wednesday, March 6, for Mrs. Fred (Elva) M. Kussman, who was born on April 6, 1886 in Adams County and passed away on March 2, 1985 at the Park View Manor Nursing Home in Sac City and had been in a nursing home in Elk Horn prior to entering the home in Sac City to be with her brother, James Stender, who died in March 1983. She was 98 years, 10 months, and 26 days.

Mrs. Kussman, the daughter of Charles and Martina (Larson) Stender, lived northwest of Cumberland where she lived for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hazel K. Reimer of Council Bluffs and Mrs. W. J. Matthews of Sun City, Arizona. Two sons, Charles, who died very young, and Edward, who was killed during the war. Charles is buried at Victoria Cemetery, south of Massena and Edward was buried in Europe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Annetta, and four brothers, Irving, Ira, William, and James.

At the services in Council Bluffs, Rev. Walter R. Simpson of the Dodge Memorial Congregational Church of Council Bluffs officiated and Ruth Hale was the organist. Pastor Simpson also officiated at graveside services later that day at Victoria Cemetery, south of Massena.

J. F. Kussman, an industrious young farmer of near Indian Grove, and Miss Elva Stender, a winsome daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Stender of near Scribner schoolhouse, were married at the residence of the officiating minister, Rev. O. H. Phillips of Keytesville, Wednesday, November 25, 1908. The Courier joins their many friends in extending congratulations.
