Mrs. Clara Benedict, 85, a resident of the Watson area since 1917, died Aug. 16 at the Hamburg hospital. Born Jun. 30, 1891 to Jame and Alvira (Hendrickson) Orvis, she married Ernest Earl Benedict at Kearney, Neb., and they were the parents of four daughters and three sons.
The Benedict family lived at Sargent, Neb., until 1917 when they moved to the Watson area and in 1956, they retired from farming to move into Watson. Mr. Benedict died Nov. 6, 1973. Mrs. Benedict had been in poor health and hospitalized a number of times before her death.
Survivors include her children: James Benedict, Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Alvira Webster, Mound City, Mrs. Margaret Greever, Iowa City, Ia., Mrs. Esther Adamson, Rock Port, Mrs. Cassie Newquist, Omaha, and Earl Benedict, Watson; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, a step-sister and an infant son.
Services were held Aug. 19 at the Watson Baptist church with Pastor Carroll Fischer officiating. Interment was at High Creek Cemetery east of Watson. Chamberlain Funeral Home was in charge.
