Carl Epps

Carl Epps, 73, of 419 E Ninth Street, died Saturday at 11:20 pm in a Rome hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Athens, Nov 15, 1891, he was the son of the late Thomas J and Evelyn Langford Epps. Mr. Epps was educated in the Athens city schools and was a graduate of Georgia Tech in 1914. Mr. Epps moved to Rome in 1930 and became associated with the Celanese Corp. In 1933 he became associated with Torrington Needle Co., retiring in 1957. He was a member of the Rome First Baptist Church, a veteran of World War I, having served in France, and was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, the former Claudine Henry, to whom he married, March 17, 1923; one daughter Mrs Mason Painter of Chattanooga, TN; two brothers, R. L. Epps of Norfolk, VA; and W. B. Epps of Hollywood, FL; four sisters, Mrs. Allen Smith; Mrs. Eugene Thomas; Mrs. William McKinnon; and Mrs. Luren Toney, all of Athens; two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted today at 11 am in the chapel of Daniels Funeral Home with the
Rev Wayne Buck officiating. Interment services will be held at 5 pm today at graveside at Oconee Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Jack Tatum officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Shepard, Carl Baags, Leland Mowrey Sr, David Painter, George Stanley, R. K. Beasley, and Frank C Ball. Active pallbearers are Dr. Ben Yourmans, Jack Sprayberry, Harold Storey, Fred Higgins Jr, Tom Walters and Frank Muschamp.
