He was born in Lawrence Township, Michigan, February 18, 1874, son of John and Marv Srackangast. On the 30th day of November 1894 he was married to Orra Bell Van Auken in Paw Paw. His early married life was spent in the vicinity of Hartford as a farmer. The family moved to Galesburg in 1907 and then to the late home one mile east. During the time living at this place, he became a prominent citizen, serving as Charleston Township Clerk for thirteen years, highway commissioner two years and on the Charleston District No. 3 School Board for seven years. A man of high integrity and reliability he was respected and beloved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, four children, Earl J., Wayne E. and John I. of Galesburg, and Harold D. of Kalamazoo. A daughter Lodenia Huldah died in infancy, Vere a son died March 9, 1913. He also leaves two sisters and two brothers, Dora Robinson of Hartford, Laverne Elwell of Muskegon, Lynn Srackangast of Rockford, Illinois, and Elmer Srackangast of Buckley, Michigan, eleven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a host of friends and neighbors.
Services were held at the Wilson Funeral Home at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, the Rev. G. A. Osborne officiating. Burial was in the family lot at Hartford. Galesburg Argus April13, 1944 page 1
