"The Dahlia Lady of East Point."

Marie was born to James Lester Tyre and Clara Stegall in Atlanta, Ga. and was married to Ransom Osborne Glauzier. She was employed with the U.S. Department of Transportations Federal Highway Department for 37 and a half years. A member of the East Point First United Methodist Church since 1943, she held several offices in her Sunday School Class, the Guild and the United Methodist Women. She also served on the Administrative Board and various committees.

Marie was very active in East Point life and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, Eastern Star Fulton Chapter #181, The East Point Forget-Me-Not Garden Club, The East Point Woman's Club, The East Point Clean Community System, AARP East Point Chapter, the NARFE and a charter member of the East Point Historical Society.

In the world of Dahlia's, she was an active member of The Dahlia Society of Georgia, The Southern States Dahlia Society and the American Dahlia Society. She was also a certified judge of Dahlia's where she judged all over the world, from the U.S. to England, France and Australia.

Her love for Dahlia's began at her work place. The postman who delivered the mail each day would occasionally bring the ladies in the office boutiques of Dahlia's that he grew at home. Seeing that Marie had an interest, he brought her a special gift, her very first bulbs and instructions on how to grow them. This is how "The Dahila Lady of East Point" got her start.

Marie's Dahlia's won award ribbon after award ribbon, so many in fact that she made two special shirts from the ribbons, One for her and one for her husband who also shared in her love of the flower. They wore their award shirts to all events and shows. Both of these shirts are now located at the East Point Historical Society in East Point, Ga. Marie's ribbon shirt hangs framed in a special place of honor for all visitors to see.
