The three Hennessey sisters at Ursaline Academy. From the left... Ida Lucille (Mary), Virginia (Virgie), and Edna Jane (Margaret). Virgie and Margaret left the orphanag first, while Mary stayed behind for a year or two. Presumably, all 3 were placed in proper "residences" for young ladies, and good references were provided to help them find "meaningful" employment. I beleive Virgie went to Michigan and Margaret went to Washington DC. Mary found work in San Antonio, TX.

The three Hennessey sisters, together again in San Antonio, 1967, with Mary at left. This was the first time Margaret had been back to Texas since leaving in the 1920s. It was on this trip that the three sisters returned to Cuero, Texas, where they were born, in search of records of their births. They also traveled on to Galveston to be reunited with their brother Allen. Tho Mary and Margaret both lived in Maryland at this time, Mary would return to San Antonio in 1968 to work at the San Antonio Hilton Hotel.

The Dungeness River, where Mary's ashes were scattered. It is the second steepest river in the U.S., dropping 7300 feet over its length, and in its upper reaches, drops more than 1000 feet per mile. Mom always did like to go fast, and she loved to travel! I like to think some of her ashes have made it on to the Strait of Juan De Fua, and maybe out to the Pacific.
