Born in Germany. Martin died while serving in the Union Army,during the Civl War. He died as a result of injuries sustained in a railroad accident where he was pushed and fell beneith the wheels of a moving troop train and lost both legs.He enlisted into Co. E. 107th NY Vol Inf. Reg. in Elmira, NY. He was being transferred to the VRC. Married Sarah Rohrbacher, who married Anthony Nagle after Martin's death. In 1860, Martin and Sarah resided in Hornellsville, Steuben County, New York.
