Jesse Robert Akers is the only child of Jesse Akers 1876-1903 and Mary Ethel Maxwell Akers 1879-1940 in Belgrade, Washington Co., Missouri. His father Jesse died of Bright's disease at the age of 27 in 1903. His mother had to rely on her parents to help raise young Jesse, known as Robert. He lived with his maternal grandparents, John and Mary Maxwell, in Belgrade most of his life until he got married.

He married Carri Ethel Compton August 8, 1918. They had three children: Jesse Edward 1919-2006, Mavis Rose 1921-2018 m. Lloyd Mooney, and Mary Ann 1933-2021 m. Jerry Knight. They had seven grandchildren: William Akers, Robert Warren Akers, Michael Mooney, Kathy Mooney, Dree Mooney, Nancy Knight and Scott Knight.

Jesse worked at the St. Louis GM Plant for thirty seven years. He and his wife Ethel were members of the Overland Baptist Church while in St. Louis and were faithful in their Christian walk. After retiring, Jesse and Ethel moved to Ironton and Arcadia. When Ethel's dementia had progressed, she went to the Missouri Baptist Home and Jesse got an apartment on the grounds. He remained in the apartments after her death until he was 97. He then decided that it was time to go into the nursing home. He finally gave up his car at that time, too. A 100th birthday celebration was given at the home with friends and many family. He died at the age of 103 years, three months and nine days young.

His youngest daughter Mary Ann Knight has her ashes buried by
Robert and Ethel's stones.
