Anna B. Attig, 91, Middleburg

MIDDLEBURG — Anna B. Attig, 91, formerly of Paxtonville Road, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, where she was admitted the day before. Since 2006, she had lived at Graysonview, Selinsgrove.

She was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Benfer, a daughter of the late Carl Brunner and Nina (Luck) Brunner Shamory. On Feb. 11, 1938, she married Ralph W. Attig, who preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1994.

She attended Paxtonville school and was a 1935 graduate of Middleburg High School, where she was the salutatorian of her class.

Anna had been employed by Blough Wagner Manufacturing, Middleburg, and served for 30 years as the Franklin Township tax collector.

She was a member of Paxtonville United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and for 30 years as church treasurer. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and a life member of the Snyder County Historical Society. In 1995, she received a citation recognizing 50 years of continuous voting.

Anna enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. She loved snow and was a big Phillies fan. Anna loved preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for her family and hosting the annual family soup day, usually held in January to celebrate family birthdays. In her later years, she was known as a feisty lady by all who knew her.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Diane A. and Lee Shamory, of Middleburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis L. and Darlene Attig, of Selinsgrove, and David B. and Leslie Attig, of Myerstown; five grandchildren, Craig, Todd and Brett Shamory and Jeffrey and Kayla Attig; four great-grandchildren, Kristy, Michael, Anna Mae and John; and one sister, Rose Marie Spriggle, of Cogan Station.

She was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Ronald Dale Attig, and her one grandson's wife, Dawn Day-Shamory.

Family and friends will be received from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Paxtonville United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral at 3:30 with the Rev. Randall G. Bennett Jr., officiating.

Burial will be in Paxtonville Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, Middleburg.
