Charles B. Close, 94, of 111 Bronson Road, Westvale, died Saturday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Westchester, Pa., Mr. Close lived in the Syracuse area for 63 years. He received a bachelor's degree and law degree from Syracuse University and later managed a private law practice in downtown Syracuse. He helped to found Hiscock Legal Aid Society and Onondaga Workshop for the Handicapped.
Mr. Close, a member of Onondaga, Oswego, New York state and American bar associations, was later employed as village attorney in Solvay and a Geddes town justice.
He also was a member and past president of New York State Magistrates' Association and Onondaga Health Association. He once served as president of the Rotary Club in Syracuse and later chaired the Easter Seal Society.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Titus; a son, C. Edwin of Westvale; two brothers, Thomas and Louis, both of Westchester, Pa.; a sister, Mildred Gentile of Westchester, Pa.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cromwell Memorial Home, 71 Prospect St., Hopewell, N.J. Burial will be in Old School Baptist Church Cemetery, Hopewell, N.J.
