Sister Adalgisa Manone, MPF, who grew up in Hellertown, was born on May 12, 1911. She passed away peacefully on May 8, 2010, just four days prior to her 99th birthday.

She had devoted almost 70 years of her life to teaching in the St. Lucy Filippini Order of Sisters. Sr. Adele entered the Order in May, 1932 and took her final vows as a nun in May, 1933 at Villa Walsh in Morristown, NJ. She earned a BA in English and Italian from Georgian Court College and an MA in history and social studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition to teaching elementary students, Sr. Adele has also instructed nuns and served as a Sister Superior and school principal in several Catholic school systems in the states of NJ and PA.

In recent years, Sr. Adele has been retired at St. Frances Xavier Convent in Newark where she taught for 25 years. She also served as principal of Holy Rosary School in Jersey City, NJ for more than a decade. Sr. Adele was always a very dynamic and active administrator. In raising funds for Catholic schools, she was instrumental in persuading entertainment personalities such as Ed Sullivan and Phil Rizzuto to come to Newark to perform for local events. Sr. Adele was fun-loving with a great sense of humor, extremely generous, easy-going, and a friend of all her fellow sisters and those who knew her. On her desk was the following plaque: "No matter what tomorrow brings, nothing can change the happiness you've given to everyone whose life you've touched, the courage you've inspired without even realizing it, or the inner strength that is so much a part of you."

Survivors: She is survived by her brother, Dell Manone, and his wife, Rose, of Hellertown, PA; brother, Dr. Carl Manone, and his wife Dani, of Palmer Twp.; and nieces, Barbara Mina, Paula Manone, Jean Manone, Rita Frey, Roseann Yencer, and Donna Johnson, all of PA.

The following passage was written about the author's grandfather, James "Jimmy" Paolini:

"While living with his aunt and uncle, Frances and Louis Manone, he became very close to his cousin, Adalgisa. They fell in love. Of course, as first cousins, they were not permitted to marry. Jimmy's aunt and uncle were very worried about Adalgisa's relationship with Jimmy and decided that she should join the convent. Adalgisa was dropped off at St. Lucy Filipini convent by her parents one day, believing she would be picked up in a couple of days. She stayed with the order, went to college, received a Masters in education, eventually becoming a school principal and Mother Superior."
