Peggy D. McCollum of Marietta passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009.
Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta with Rev. Sam Storey, Sr. officiating.
Peggy was a life long Marietta resident. She was born in Cobb County on May 19, 1936. Mrs. McCollum attended local city schools and was an all-star basketball player at Marietta High School. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Johnny, on June 25, 1954. Throughout her life she doted on her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister and extended family. As a longtime sports fan she eagerly followed high school and college activities. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she shared this passion with family and friends alike. Her sense of family indeed offers us a lasting legacy.
Survivors include her husband, John D. McCollum, Jr. of Marietta; daughter & son-in-law, Angie McCollum Durham & Alan Durham of Acworth; two sons & one daughter-in-law, Andy & Gwen McCollum of Wake Forest, NC; Davis McCollum of Marietta; five grandchildren, Allison Gurski and husband Billy, Stephanie Polk and husband Joey, James Durham; Drew McCollum, Andrea McCollum; two great grandchildren, Emery Polk, Davis Gurski; sister, Catherine Lindsey of Cartersville; brother & sister in-law, Bob & Beverly McCollum; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
