Young, Richard Taylor (age 61)

Richard was born November 12, 1948 in Denison, TX where he resided until 1992 when he moved his family to Spokane. He passed away on May 13, 2010 in Valley, WA due to a swimming accident. Following graduation from Denison High School, he joined the Army, proudly serving two tours of duty as a medic in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and married Colletta (Hogue) Young. The couple attended Grayson County College, earned degrees from Hardin Simmons University and later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Throughout a lifetime of service to the Lord, he served as a Baptist Minister in many capacities including Music Evangelist, Music and Youth director at churches in Archer City, TX, and Dimmitt, TX. Most recently, he ministered as Associate Pastor at Driscoll Blvd. Baptist Church in Spokane. He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years Colletta, and his two daughters, Alice Young (Heather Krebs) of Spokane, WA, and Molly Young Hsu (Stephen Hsu) of Tacoma, WA. His memory is also treasured by his two grandchildren Elizabeth and Isaiah Hsu. Richard was the youngest of four children born to Sam and Rachel Young. He was preceded in death by his eldest brother Sam Young (Charlotte), of Hugo, OK and survived by his sister Margaret Derebery (Bob) of Denison, TX and George Young (Twylah) of San Antonio, TX. He was blessed with numerous nephews and nieces, friends and acquaintances. A Memorial Services was held May 20th at Calvary Baptist Church in Denison, TX with his nephew Dr. Richard F. Young officiating. Interment was at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Sherman, TX.

Spokane, WA. - Richard Taylor Young, 61, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Spokane, WA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church, 300 W. Acheson, Denison, TX 75020 with his Nephew Dr. Richard F. Young and Rev. Danny Broughton officiating. Private family interment will be held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, TX.

Richard was born on November 12, 1948 in Denison, TX the son of Sam and Rachel Young. He married Colletta Hogue in September 1971. Richard was a graduate of Denison High School in 1967 and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX.

He served his country with two tours of duty in Viet Nam as an Army Medic.

Richard was a Music and Youth Director in several churches in Texas and worked as a music evangelist before becoming a music director at Driscoll Ave. Baptist Church in Spokane, WA., where he served until his early retirement because of health.

Richard is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Colletta of Spokane, WA; 2 daughters, Alice Young of Spokane, WA and Molly Hsu and her husband Sesean Hsu; grandchildren, Elly Hsu and Isaiah Hsu all of Tacoma, WA; Brother, George Young and his wife Twylah of San Antonio; sister, Margaret Derebery and husband Bob of Denison, TX; sister-in-law, Charlotte Young of Denison, TX; nephews, Ray McCarthy and wife Loava, Franklin McCarthy and wife Jennifer, Boyd Young and wife Tina, Richard F. Young and wife Amy, Matt Young and wife Eva; nieces, Laura McCarthy, Rachel Young, Rebecca Smith and husband Kasey, Carol McNiel and husband Mark, Susan Wilson and husband Rick; numerous great nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Sam Young, Jr.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
