George Franklin Young
December 11, 1938 - December 14, 2012

George Franklin Young, 74, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 14, 2012, after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy diagnosed in 2008.

George was born December 11, 1938, in Denison, Texas. After graduating Denison High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the submarine service in the Pacific and as a legal yeoman on a submarine tender in Norfolk, Virginia. Following the Navy, George attended Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, Oklahoma, and completed his degree in music at Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas.

As an ordained Baptist Minister, George has served churches in Kansas, Oklahoma, West Texas, and San Antonio for 45 years. He served in various capacities as minister of music, youth, education, outreach, finance, administrator, and older adult ministry. After 10 years on staff at Trinity Baptist Church, San Antonio, he retired on December 31, 2009. George was awarded the Horizon Award for Excellence in Older Adult Ministry by the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

George was preceded to heaven by his parents, Samuel Wilkerson Young, Sr. and Rachel Margaret Savage Young. He is also preceded by his older brother, Sam W. Young, Jr. and spouse, Charlotte; and his younger brother, Richard Taylor Young.

He is survived by his wife of 47 wonderful years, Twylah; three children and their spouses, Rachel and Oscar Barron, Matthew and Eva Young, and Rebecca and Kasey Smith; and four grandchildren, Damian Crouch, Emma and Mason Young, and Kelsey Smith; all of San Antonio.

He is also survived by one sister and spouse, Margaret and Bob Derebery of Denison, Texas; his younger brother's spouse, Colletta Young, of Grant's Pass, Oregon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

George had a great zest for life. He would often wake up in the morning, go to the door, and say, "Good Morning World!" Now, at Heaven's door, his words may very possibly be, "Good Morning, Heaven!" When something was really awesome, George would say, "How do you spell GOLLY?" When George arrives in Heaven, his response could be a huge GOLLY!!!

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 9AM at Trinity Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 10AM. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
