DR. GEO. R. HOWARD

Dr. Geo. R. Howard, (Jr.), son of Colonel and
Mrs. Geo.. R. Howard, who were early settlers.in
Palestine, Anderson County, Texas, was born and
reared in Palestine, Texas. He received his collegiate
education at the Texas A.M. College and
at Randolph-Macon College at Ashland, Virginia.
While a student at Randolph-Macon College he
joined the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He attended
the Medical Department of Tulane University of
Louisiana at New Orleans, from which he graduated
with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. After
practicing a few years he took a post graduate
course in Medicine and Surgery at the Chicago Post
Graduate Medical School and Hospital. Subsequently
he took a special course at the Philadelphia Polyclinic.
For several years following his graduation Dr.
Howard held the position of House Surgeon in the
.International and Great Northern Railway .Hospital
at Palestine, Texas, and also the same position
in The Texas and. Pacific Railway Hospital
at Marshall, Texas. Afterwards and for
many years he has given special attention to
mental diseases, and he now holds, and has held for
a number of years, the position of First Assistant
Physician and Assistant Superintendent of the
Austin State Hospital for the Insane at Austin,
Texas.
Dr. Howard is a member of the County Medical
Society, the Texas State Neurological Association,
the Texas State Medical Association and the
American Medical Association. He is. also a member
of the Order of the Knights of Pythias; the
Woodmen of the World; and the Methodist Episcopal
Church, South.
