OBITUARY
William Engelhardt was born in Germany in the province of Prussia on the 25th day of April, 1846. He came to America with his parents at the age of 16 and settled in Clayton county, Iowa, where in 1868 he was married to Louisa Groth who survives him. Their union was blessed with five children; all of whom are grown up.

In September 1887 Mr. Engelhardt came to South Dakota and located in Humboldt twp. On a farm where he lived up to the time of his death. Mr. Engelhardt always had a reputation of being a good citizen and neighbor and by his death he leaves a vacancy in the community which only time can repair.

He was president of the Farmer's Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Company of Humboldt and proved himself an able business man as well as a successful farmer. There were present at the time of his death, his wife and five children, besides a younger brother of the deceased and a sister-in-law, who live in Iowa. Besides those already named, deceased leaves nine grandchildren to mourn his death.

The funeral was held today at the Humboldt German Lutheran Church of which deceased was a member, and his remains were laid to rest in the Humboldt cemetery. The “Journal “ together with the many friends of the family extend sincere sympathy to them in their sad bereavement.
