On October 4, 1840 she married Johann Engelhardt in Anklam, Germany. Marie and John immigrated to the United States aboard the ship `New Orleans` from Hamburg to New York - arriving in July 1862. Along with their seven children, they settled in Clayton County, Iowa on a farm near Garnavillo.
Their children, all born in Germany, include:
1841 - Rudolph Engelhardt
1844 - Juliane Engelhardt (Reinke)
1846 - William Engelhardt
1848 - Augusta Engelhardt(Krambeer),
1850 - Charles Engelhardt
1853 - Henry Engelhardt
1855 - Minnie Engelhardt (Heckendorf).
