Deon Penrod Mooney passed away on July 24, 2005 at her home in Provo, Utah. She fought the valiant fight all of her life, even to the end. Deon was born on September 15, 1915 to Eugene and Sarah Goodman Penrod in Provo, Utah. She was part of a large family. She always helped out at home and next door at her grandparent's house. Deon was educated in the schools of Provo.
She was in the first class to attend the Dixon Junior High School. She also held several jobs as a youth starting at the age of 12. Her favorite job was working at the theaters in Provo which she did after school and on weekends. She enjoyed relating the funny stories about the early films and the tricks that were played on her at work.
In that day she walked more than 5 miles each day to accomplish her tasks at school and work. Though her earnings were meager, she shared them with the entire family. She also spent several years, after her children were grown, working in retail clothing where she made many friends and was a very reliable and dependable employee.
Deon married Arnold Mooney and they lived in Provo where she helped care for his mother for several years. After she became a mother she channeled her time and efforts into helping her children. She made many sacrifices for them and set a great example.
She raised four children: Ronald of Provo; Francis (Loa) of Cedaredge, CO; Deanne (Dan E) Kallas of Orem; and Karen (Neil) Roberts of Highland. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was very proud of her family. Deon was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, and grandsons Dennis Mooney and Shirl Mooney.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 1:00 pm at Walker Family Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo with a viewing from 11:45 - 12:45 prior to the service. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.walkerfamilymortuaries.com
