The daughter of Harold Biggs Killebrew and Katheryn Martha Hoelzel, "Jeanie" was an only child. She graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis County, Missouri, and she was a graduate of DePauw University in Indiana. She also earned a degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

After studying art in Europe, she worked as a teacher for the children of military personnel in England, and then for several more years in Germany.

Jeanie married Ward Carhart on 01 Feb 1969 at Christ Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada. He was the father of 3 children from his first marriage.

An engineer who served in World War II, Ward was also a teacher and school principal. After living and working in Europe, Jeanie and Ward moved back to the states and made their home in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska.

At the time of her death due to diabetes, Jeanie was 70 years, 3 months and 24 days old. She was buried on 29 Apr 2009 following services at Christ the King Church in Omaha. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward, who passed away in 2001.
