Hold Funeral Rite Saturday for Mrs Stratton
Death Occurs at Marseilles Wednesday
Funeral rites of Mrs Catherine Denen Stratton, 76, of Aledo, were held at 2 pm Saturday, July 19, 1952, from the Sherrard chapel in Aledo, with Rev Howard B Van Dyke, pastor fo the First Presbyterian church,officiating. Interment was in Farlow Grove cemetery and pallbearers were Richard Davison, Robert Davison, Charles O Ford, Edward Watson, Fred Bahringer, and Richard B Allen.
Ms Robert Mortland sang "The Old Rugged Cross." and "Beyond the Sunset", with Mrs J B Sherrard at the organ console.
Mrs Stratton died Wednesday, July 16, at the home of her son, Victor Denen, at Marseilles where she had been visiting for three weeds. She was born June 3, 1877 at Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of John and Mary Baker Leek.
She was married to William Denen in 1894 at the home of her parents in what is now the town of Matherville and they lived at Joy for a few years, later moving to Aledo in 1912. She later married David Stratton.
Of Presbyterian faith, she was active in work of the church until her health failed a few years ago. She was also active and held office in the Mercer county W C T U.
Surviving are her husband and three sons, Ralph Denen of Chatfield, Minn; Victor Denen of Marseilles, and Kenneth Denen of Moline, and a brother, George Leek of Aledo. There are six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs May Wilson and Mrs Della Barlett. The Times Record, Wed 23 July 1941, Sec 1, page 8.
