Ernest Cannon, 79, died in Bulloch Memorial Hospital early Thursday night after a long illness.
He was a native of Bulloch County and had lived in Statesboro all of his life. He was a member of Alee Temple of the Shrine of Savannah, the Forest Heights Country Club and the First Baptist Church of Statesboro. He was a retired contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita B. Cannon, Statesboro; and a sister, Mrs. Fate Deal, Statesboro.
The funeral service will be held today at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Smith Tillman Mortuary with the Rev. William Perry officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Emory Deal, Bennie E. Deal, Francis Allen, Jim Hines, Joe Hines and J.N. Lee.
Smith-Tillman Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
