Mrs. H.M. Brown, Pioneer Resident, Passes Away
In the death of Mrs. H.M. Brown Friday morning, Sept. 26th, Columbus loses another of its pioneer and worthy women.
Helen Marie Cooper was born at Lake Mills June 3rd, 1847, a daughter of Horace and Julia Ann Cooper and at the age of three years came to Columbus with her parents where she has lived continuously since. Here she attended school and on Jan. 1st, 1868, was united in marriage to Col. Harvey M. Brown.
Mrs. Brown was the founder and was the first president of the local W.R.C. and a loyal and faithful member of the Olivet church, for many years taking an active part in all its activities. As a neighbor and friend, none may excell her in those kindly deeds that make life beautiful and useful. Her life was one continuous lesson of cheerfulness and loving consideration for those near and dear to her and her many acts of kindness to those in need, her home being open to all, endeared her to all of her acquantances.
Deceased leaves to mourn the passing of a most devoted mother and sister, two children, Harry W. Brown of Milwaukee and Mrs. Dorothy N. Webster of this city, one sister, Mrs. Etta Scott of Naperville, Ill. and two brothers, Horace Cooper of Aurora, Ill. and Charles F. cooper of Rockford, Ill., two sisters and a brother preceeding her in death. Her husband died in 1893.
