Born in Indian Land, he was a son of the late Dallas Williamson Pettus and Beulah McDonald Patterson Pettus. He was married to Evelyn Pettus for 61 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in World War II, and received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He lived in Montverde, Fla., for 20 years. He worked for Celanese for many years as a jet wiper. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Indian Land; a daughter, Becky Costner of Indian Land; two sons, Aaron Laiton Pettus Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Indian Land and Joey Pettus and his wife, Robin, of Salisbury, N.C.; two brothers, William Pettus and Joseph Pettus, both of Indian Land; three sisters, Miriam Shapcott of Stautan, Va., Ruth Byrd of North Myrtle Beach and Virginia Danenhower of Rock Hill; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Pettus.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church fellowship hall and other times at the home, 10956 Old Pettus Place, Indian Land.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Michael Ritter and Benny Green, with burial in the church cemetery.
