Salisbury, N.C. – Evelyn Kimbrell Pettus, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at the home of her son, Joseph D. Pettus.

Born in Charlotte, she is the daughter of the late Bolton Starr and Eva Culp Kimbrell. She was married to the late Aaron L. Pettus for 61 years. She attended Oakhurst High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She lived in Montverde, Fla., for 20 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Rebecca Costner of Indian Land; two sons, Aaron Laiton Pettus Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Indian Land and Joseph Dallas Pettus and his wife, Robin, of Salisbury, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Clay Scott.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Indian Land Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Benny Green, with burial in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Fort Mill Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, W. Salem, NC 27103.
