Funeral rites for Jacob M. Norris were held Monday, Jan. 31 at 2:30 at the Methodist church with the Rev. W.W. Bentzinger officiating at the service. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. R.R. Anthony with Mrs. C.H. Manatt at the organ. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following members of the Knights of Pythians acting as pallbearers: Earl Force, Kenneth Lineweaver, William Karr, Sam Werner, Lester Duffus and S.S. Smith.
Mr. Norris has been in failing health for sometime and had suffered a stroke about three weeks ago from which he failed to recover. He died Saturday, Jan. 29 in the Montezuma hospital at the age of 76 years.
Jacob M. Norris, eldest son of John and Alsinda Norris, was born east of Brooklyn December 3, 1867. With the exception of nine years spent in Wyoming, Mr. Norris always lived in Poweshiek county. On August 2, 1894 he was united in marriage to Jennie E. Orr. Ten children were born to them, of whom two preceded their father in death, an infant son, Joseph, and Jessie, aged 16 years.
Mr. Norris has been a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge for 42 years.
Those who survive him are his wife, Mrs. Jennie Norris of Brooklyn; eight children, Fred Norris of Grinnell; Ina Price of Moran, Kan.; Lillie Butts and Mary Chapman of Upton, Wyoming; Grace Cookston of Moyie Springs, Idaho; Lila Johnston of Gering, Nebr.; Naomi Price and Ralph Norris of Brooklyn. There are 37 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In addition to the above, Mr. Norris is survived by two brothers, Elzie Norris of Grinnell and O.J. Norris of Rockford, Ill.; one sister Anna Gilbreaith of Montezuma, and many other relatives and friends.
