He was born March 24, 1904 to Mr. & Mrs. Roy South in Inman Township. He was formerly a farmer before he went into carpentry work. He was a former member of the Deer Creek School Board.
On June 16, 1923, he married Mabel Brumbaugh in Wadena, Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel, daughters, Frances Peterson, Minneapolis; Thelma Pesola, New York Mills; sons, Richard Erwin South, Auburn, Washington; Lawrence L. South, Spenard, Alaska; Donald A. South,Youngstown, Ohio; and Viven D South, Lowellville, Ohio. Also surviving are his sisters, Mrs Ervin Irons, Kelso, Washington; Mrs Pearce Irons, Deer Creek, Minnesota; and brothers, Wallace South, Cass Lake, and Eldon South, Longvie, Washington.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13, 1965 at the Domian Memorial Funeral Home, Bertha, with Mrs. C Fish officiating. Interment was in Inman Cemetery at Henning, Minnesota.
