Gertrude Louise Adams Balken, 79, died Tuesday, Feb 17, 1998 at Ogden Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

She was the daughter of Robert W. Adams, M.D. and Elsie L. Groezinger, born January 30, 1919 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Chetek, Wisconsin High School in 1938. She attended River Falls College in Wisconsin, and in 1942 was awarded a Bachelor of Science,

Graduate Nursing Degree, from the University of Minnesota, and was admitted to the State Board of Examiners as a Registered Nurse. Louise was supervisor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, and later at the University of Texas Hospital at Galveston.

Louise married John Bruce Balken, M.D. on June 3, 1944 at Christ Cathedral in Salina, Kansas. The family has resided in Ogden, Utah since 1953. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and active in the Altar Guild. Also, a member of the Weber County Medical Auxiliary and the Ogden Golf and Country Club Women's Association.

Louise was a greatly loved spouse, mother, and grandmother, and is survived by her husband, Bruce, of Ogden; her sons, Robert B., (Angie), John S. (Hazel), William R., (Holly, formerly Mrs. William R.), all of Salt Lake City; and daughter Barbara Louise Myers (formerly Mrs. Bruce Myers), of Park City, Utah; and her sister, Elizabeth (Mrs. Robert A. Moe), Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and nine grandchildren.

The family extends gratitude to the Nurses, Physicians, and staff of Ogden Regional Medical Center, to the Sisters of Saint Benedict for their loving care of Louise during her recent illness and especially to her devoted sister, Liz, and the friends who attended her.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 21st at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2374 Grant Avenue in Ogden with interment in the Good Shepherd Columbarium. The family will meet with friends in Tuttle Hall at the church following the services.
