FRANK WILKINS
Frank Wilkins, son of Charles and Rebecca Wilkins, was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, June 13, 1860, and departed this life Feb. 23, 1943, at his home in Chariton at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 10 days.
He was one of a family of nine children and at the age of 15 years he moved with his parents to Lucas county where he has since resided. On Jan. 1, 1882, he was married to Rosa Arnold, who passed away in January, 1917. To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter.
Three years later he was married to Mrs. Inez Miller, of Chariton, and to this union one son was born.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Yount, of Santa Ana, California; two sons, Thomas C. Wilkins, of Lebanon, Kansas, and James Howard Wilkins, in Officers Training at Ft. Benning, Georgia; also 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. One son, Walter, preceded him in death in 1936.
Of four sisters and four brothers only one sister and one brother survive, Mrs. Rev. E. W. Curtis, of Des Moines, and Alva Wilkins, of New Virginia.
He united with the United Brethren church in his teen age years and has maintained he membership in that church for over 60 years. The Christian testimony of Mr. Wilkins has been especially blest of the Lord to an untold number of souls.
He was a splendid citizen in every sense of the word, and was highly regarded by all who knew him for his many fine traits of character.
Funeral services were held at the Miley funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, who has been an intimate friend of the Wilkins family for many years, and who was assisted by Rev. J. Wesley Peterson, of the U. B. church of Chariton. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Music was rendered by a male quartette composed of David Evans, Ralph Mccanon, Joyce Tennant and R. A. Dillman, with Mrs. Melvin Foster as accompanist. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
Pall bearers were John Hollingshead, E. E. McDowell, Arthur Umbenhower, Melvin Foster, Clifford Mason and R. S. Repp.
