Betty Rose Parker was born on Saturday, May 12, 1923, in Topeka, Kansas. She was the daughter of C. Lester and Myrtle Carrie (Schults) Cummickel.
When she was a teenager, Betty moved to Kansas City, Missouri with her aunt and uncle. She also lived in Richter and Pomona, Kansas, prior to moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 1958, where she made her home until her death on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the age of eighty-six years.
Betty graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri, with the class of 1941.
She worked for Scott's 5 & 10, later known as T.G. & Y., at the lunch counter, and H. D. Lee in quality control, both in Ottawa, until her retirement.
She was a member and past president of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa.
Betty loved sewing, baking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles and bird watching.
On Thursday, December 25, 1941, Betty was united in marriage with Edward Shillington Parker in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Ervin Catron; daughter, Jeannette Jensen; three sisters, Dorothea E. Myers, Mary Ellen Dunn, Olive Whitaker; and granddaughter, Julie Jensen.
She is survived by five daughters, Wynnette "Wynnie" Young and her husband, Larry, of Osawatomie, KS, Karen Walburn and her husband, Gary, of Ottawa, KS, Laura Snider and her husband, Ralph, of Ottawa, KS, Linda Roller and her husband, Brian, of Ottawa, KS, Susan Higbee and her husband, Troy, of Riverside, CA; four sons, Wayne Parker and his wife, Judy, of Belton, TX, John Parker and his wife, LaVon, of Ellis, KS, Rick Parker of Ottawa, KS, Martin Parker of Ottawa, KS; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and, brother-in-law, Art Parker of Middle Amana, IA.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Parker at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
